FASHION SAVVY

Whoever said money can't buy you happiness, simply didn't know how and where to shop! Having the uncanny talent of finding a bargain is definitely a trait of a savvy shopper. In essence, it is about making the most out of your fashion dollar, right? About a week ago I scoured the racks at Dillard's annual clearance sale and scored so many good deals that I am still on a high from the thrill of the hunt as well as the kill! Lol

There are a lot of fashion skills out there to learn. So many that patience and perseverance are also handy virtues when going shopping. It takes time, a good eye, and a spirit of adventure. You can find some really reasonable name brand and designer items. Especially those that you would never pay regular price for. Nothing is more irritating than buying something at full price, only to see it go on sale a few days later. Never buy anything full price!

If you do, save your original receipt and act fast. Some stores mark down items within 14 to 30 days. Fortunately, many stores will refund the difference on items purchased within 2 weeks of a sale. So take it back for a price adjustment within 7 business days. Learn those sales cycles of your favorite stores so you can plan to shop during times when you'll find the most discounts. Also, get on their mailing list, sign up for special deals and events, or build relationships to get to know the sales people, and you may just get the inside track on upcoming sales.
How to dress well consist of knowing more than buying fashion on sale. The number one rule, is "know thyself!" Know what you like, what looks good on you, and how to build a solid, fun wardrobe that will help you feel pulled together and confident without spending a fortune. It's easier to make sense of stores when you know exactly what you like and precisely what looks great on you. For example petites can be found in Ann Taylor, Chico's, J. Crew. Don't be afraid to experiment! As time goes on your style will change as your taste change. But the things that make you, "you" will stay constant and staying true to yourself will help you weed out the trends and fashions that won't work for you and find those that will. A smart savvy shopper only buys what she loves and what she will wear.

Here are a few tips that can guide you as well:
  • For retail, shop off season, discount and sale stores.
  • Frequently shop consignment, vintage and thrift stores.
  • If you miss a sale ask for discounts and don't overlook the rejects. Get a super steep discount and get it repaired.
  • Choose quality items, pieces that will save you in the long run. Items made with higher quality materials are less likely to wear down.
  • Buy clothes you need to complete your wardrobe that reflect your style, unique taste, and personal lifestyle.
  • Match new purchases to items already in your closet.
  • Cleanse your closet often, purge, reorganize, and be aware of what's in there.
  • Think of events and activities that make up your lifestyle. That is the bulk of what should be in there.
To some it may seem like an awful lot of thought to give to clothing, but the bit of thinking and planning up front will make your life a lot easier on a daily basis. You'll have a wardrobe that coordinates easily, fills your needs, flatters your figure, and fits your body. Or, let me put it another way, you'll never again stand in front of a packed closet and say, "I've got nothing to wear!"

Remember your style is your story!

  1. Love love love this look. Its very feminine and confident. I see myself going to a wedding or church in this outfit. The clutch and necklace set it off just right and the glasses put that special edge to it! And the bow shoes to boot!
